About the Book
What if some of the most important leadership lessons are learned not in boardrooms, but along the journey of life?
A Traveller’s Journey: Leadership Lessons for Life is a nonfiction reflection on leadership, work, people and personal transformation, drawn from Virendra Shukla’s experiences across decades of corporate and academic life. The book connects professional experiences with deeper questions of purpose, character, ethics, relationships and self-awareness. Its central metaphor is that of a traveller navigating changing landscapes with a compass rather than simply following a fixed map.
Moving through experiences in industrial relations, human resources, organizational transformation, quality management, governance and academia, the book examines how professional challenges can become opportunities for learning. The journey includes experiences across organizations and industries, along with reflections on mentors who helped shape the author’s evolution from a “People Manager” to a “People Mentor.”
The book also explores the relationship between ethical values and leadership. Concepts such as PHUL—Purity, Honesty, Unselfishness and Love—and the 3Cs of Connection, Correction and Direction are presented as frameworks for reflection and leadership practice.
Inside the book, readers will discover:
* Lessons on resilience, discipline, vision and navigating uncertainty
* Reflections on people management, industrial relations and organizational transformation
* Perspectives on ethical leadership, accountability and human dignity
* Insights from Japanese quality practices, continuous improvement and Gemba
* Reflections on self-awareness, purpose, relationships and the evolution from People Manager to People Mentor
A Traveller’s Journey brings together professional experiences, personal reflections and leadership insights for readers who want to explore leadership not merely as a position, but as an ongoing journey of learning, responsibility and self-governance.
